About the Journal
|
SocioLex Journal (SLJ) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing critical, empirical, and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of sociolinguistics, legal discourse, forensic linguistics, and socio-legal studies. As legal frameworks and social institutions increasingly rely on language as the primary instrument of justice, power, and social order, SLJ provides an authoritative scholarly platform for linguists, legal theorists, forensic practitioners, and sociologists. The journal prioritizes rigorous scholarship that examines how linguistic structures and discursive practices construct, enforce, negotiate, and challenge legal norms, human rights, and institutional authority in diverse societal contexts.
SLJ welcomes original research articles, theoretical treatises, forensic case analyses, and systematic reviews across language, law, and society. Key thematic areas include, but are not limited to:
Forensic Linguistics & Evidence: Authorship attribution, speaker identification, forensic phonetics, computational linguistics in criminal investigations, and linguistic analysis of disputed texts.
Legal Discourse & Institutional Communication: Courtroom interaction, police interrogations, legislative drafting, judicial reasoning, jury deliberation dynamics, and legal translation/interpretation.
Sociolinguistics & Legal Systems: Language rights, linguistic discrimination in judicial proceedings, multilingual justice systems, and dialect bias in legal settings.
Critical Legal Discourse & Power Dynamics: Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of statutory law, human rights rhetoric, political-legal rhetoric, institutional control, and access to justice for marginalized populations.
Digital Communication & Cyberlaw: Hate speech detection, online defamation, linguistic evidence in cybercrime, intellectual property and linguistic copyright, and contract language in smart agreements.
SocioLex Journal (SLJ) is published biannually (2 issues per year: June and December), operating an online-first continuous publishing model to ensure rapid editorial decisions and immediate global open-access dissemination.
To safeguard academic integrity, methodological soundness, and interdisciplinary rigor, SLJ enforces a strict double-anonymous peer review protocol. All submitted manuscripts undergo preliminary editorial screening to assess thematic alignment, original scholarly contribution, structural organization, and ethical compliance (conforming to COPE standards). Manuscripts passing desk review are assigned to a minimum of two independent international experts specializing in forensic linguistics, legal discourse, or sociology of law. Evaluation criteria center on theoretical depth, methodological precision, analytical clarity, empirical validity, and practical relevance to legal and linguistic practices.
The mission of SocioLex Journal is to advance global scholarship on the interplay between language, law, and social power by publishing rigorous, evidence-based research, informing judicial practice and legal policy, and promoting open-access knowledge to foster linguistic equity and justice worldwide.
