Future Learning Architectures (FLAR) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing transformative research on next-generation educational ecosystems, physical and virtual learning spaces, pedagogical frameworks, and intelligent instructional design. Recognizing that the future of education demands structural convergence across spatial design, digital infrastructure, cognitive science, and progressive pedagogy, FLAR serves as an intellectual platform for educational researchers, instructional architects, learning space designers, and institutional strategists. The journal prioritizes scholarship that explores how the architectural design of learning environments—both built and digital—reshapes educational access, collaborative engagement, and institutional scalability.

Scope and Topics

FLAR invites original empirical studies, architectural case analyses, conceptual frameworks, and systematic reviews across the multidisciplinary field of learning environments. Core thematic areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Spatial & Physical Learning Environments: Next-generation classroom design, agile campus infrastructures, biophilic educational spaces, acoustics/lighting optimization for cognition, and physical-digital blended environments.

  • Digital & Cloud Educational Architectures: Learning management ecosystem design, microservices for educational platforms, interoperable learning infrastructure, and decentralized educational networks.

  • Pedagogical Frameworks & Instructional Blueprinting: Transdisciplinary curriculum structures, modular learning pathways, competency-based architecture, and agile instructional design models.

  • Cognitive & Human-Centered Learning Design: Universal Design for Learning (UDL), neuroarchitecture in education, socio-spatial dynamics of collaboration, and accessible learning environments for diverse learners.

  • Institutional Transformation & Future Campus Strategy: Smart campus governance, sustainability in educational facilities, scalable lifelong learning infrastructures, and strategic technology roadmaps in higher and primary education.

Publication Frequency

Future Learning Architectures (FLAR) is published biannually (2 issues per year: May and November), employing an online-first continuous publishing workflow to support rapid peer review and immediate digital dissemination.

Peer Review Process

To maintain international academic rigor and methodological excellence, FLAR enforces a strict double-anonymous peer review protocol. All submitted manuscripts undergo initial desk screening by the Editorial Board to assess thematic fit, original contribution, structural integrity, and adherence to international academic reporting standards. Qualified manuscripts are assigned to at least two independent international reviewers with specialized expertise in educational design, learning technologies, or architecture. Review criteria emphasize conceptual and structural novelty, methodological soundness, empirical validity, and practical relevance to the evolution of future learning environments.

Mission Statement

The mission of Future Learning Architectures is to shape the future of education by publishing cutting-edge research on physical, digital, and pedagogical learning frameworks, advancing interdisciplinary collaboration, and providing open-access knowledge to build resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking educational ecosystems worldwide.
