About the Journal
|
Civic Justice Journal (CJJ) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing critical, empirical, and interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of civil justice systems, civic engagement, human rights, public interest law, and community-centered dispute resolution. In a global landscape where structural inequality, bureaucratic barriers, and digital transformations challenge public access to legal remedies, CJJ serves as an authoritative intellectual forum for legal scholars, human rights advocates, criminologists, civil society practitioners, and public administrators. The journal prioritizes research that investigates participatory justice mechanisms, equitable institutional design, civic empowerment, and practical innovations aimed at narrowing the civil justice gap.
CJJ invites original research articles, socio-legal empirical studies, policy critiques, and systematic reviews across civil rights, institutional justice, and community empowerment. Core areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to:
Access to Justice & Legal Empowerment: Legal aid infrastructures, self-represented litigation, cost barriers in civil courts, community paralegalism, and institutional accountability.
Civic Engagement, Civil Liberties & Democratic Rights: Citizen participation in justice systems, civil rights litigation, public interest advocacy, freedom of assembly, and whistleblower protections.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) & Restorative Justice: Mediation, arbitration, community-based reconciliation, customary dispute settlement, and restorative frameworks within civil contexts.
Human Rights & Social Equity in Civil Law: Consumer protection, housing justice and land rights, labor rights, anti-discrimination law, and legal protections for marginalized communities.
Digital Justice & Legal Technology for the Public: Online dispute resolution (ODR), AI in civil legal aid, open justice data initiatives, and the digital divide in legal service delivery.
Civic Justice Journal (CJJ) is published biannually (2 issues per year: June and December), maintaining an online-first publication pipeline to facilitate timely peer review and immediate global open-access dissemination.
To uphold academic integrity and rigorous research standards, CJJ enforces a strict double-anonymous peer review protocol. Submitted manuscripts undergo preliminary desk evaluation by the Editorial Board to assess thematic fit, structural organization, ethical compliance (conforming to COPE standards), and similarity index thresholds. Manuscripts passing desk review are evaluated by at least two independent international experts specializing in civil justice, public interest law, or socio-legal studies. Peer review criteria focus on theoretical depth, methodological precision, empirical validity, clarity of argumentation, and practical relevance to civic justice reform.
The mission of Civic Justice Journal is to champion justice equity and civic empowerment by publishing rigorous, peer-reviewed scholarship, bridging academic research with grassroots legal advocacy, and providing open-access insights to build fair, transparent, and accessible justice systems globally.
